The Numbers,
Festival Of The Tenth Summer
Fac 151
June 1986
|
Description: Product from Festival of the Tenth Summer, Manchester, June
1986
10 four color printed postcards in special (numbered) Numbers envelope.
500 sets were printed. Very few sold.
Designed by Peter Saville Associates.
Saville's theme for the designs surrounding the Festival of the Tenth Summer centered
on
the numbers zero to nine and his unique approaches to them. The numbers were turned into
sculptures/objects/paintings for an exhibition in the City Art Gallery that was part of
the festival, as well as posters leading up to the event.
Of them all, this collection of 10 postcards was the least seen and undoubtedly the most
colorful. You can spend hours working out Saville's inspiration for each numeral. One,
for example, is a bar-code (which was made in concrete and left in the Hac cause no-one
wanted it) and the 5 is the most degraded but still computer-recognizable numeral you can
get.
